Here is one of the two prizewinning pieces of tatting by Gillian Buchanan. It won first prize at the 5th Surrey Tatters´ Garden Party in 1999. The pattern uses beads and two-shuttle tatting in fine thread.

Gift or Sachet Bag
A hanky with a tatted lace edge, even an antique one or one with worn places or spots, can be folded and basted into a lovely sachet bag.

Sharon Albers does not say which thread she used in her pattern but it has been suggested that this sturdy tote bag has been made from fairly thick thread - around No. 10 crochet cotton. This is a fairly simple but very effective pattern.
